On December 2, 2009, AmeriCorps volunteer Christine Thelen, Board Member Jonathan Groner and 10 Living Wages students visited the Frederick Douglass House in Anacostia. Christine and Emily Breines, the other AmeriCorps volunteer, work with students at Living Wages as they complete their External Diploma Program (EDP) and ultimately receive a diploma from Ballou S.T.A.Y. High School. The Frederick Douglass House is located a few block from the Living Wages V Street location. Christine said, "I think that this was a great experience for the students because the history of Frederick Douglass and his home are so deeply ingrained in this neighborhood where our students live and study".  Living Wages student Bobby Houston thought the visit was "great." " I learned a lot of stuff" he said. Beyond Talent has been working with Living Wages since BT was founded, in 2003.
