2 students who enrolled in Beyond Talent programs in FY 2007 will complete associate’s degrees in May 2009. Another success story began 3 years ago, when a student who enrolled in Living Wages GED program after being laid off from her hospital receptionist job became a Beyond Talent Peer Mentor after passing the GED exam.
With Beyond Talent’s assistance, she completed 1 year of liberal arts classes at Prince George’s Community College. When her husband became disabled, she enrolled in a certification program for medical billing and coding. In February 2009, after Beyond Talent staff helped her prepare a resume and talking points for a job fair, she gained a full-time job in medical billing and coding, with a starting salary of $17 an hour. She plans to return to Prince George’s County Community College on a part-time basis to progress toward a 4-year degree. She has since referred a friend to Beyond Talent for resume assistance and made a personal financial contribution to the organization! Read the Impact Report. |
