By partnering with a number of providers, Beyond Talent reaches many underserved populations including the homeless, adjudicated youth, disconnected youth, and TANF recipients. Beyond Talent in 2008 expanded to include more "partners" -- sites who refer students, host Beyond Talent Peer Mentors or other programs, and collaborate with Beyond Talent to ensure seamless transitions for their graduates.
Beyond Talent has been honored to work with the following partner agencies since our founding in 2003: Living WagesLiving Wages is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides adult education in Southeast Washington, DC. Academy of HopeThe Academy of Hope changes lives and improves our community by providing high-quality adult education in a supportive and empowering environment. Notre Dame Education Center Notre Dame Education Center provides classes to prepare adults to earn their high school diploma, either through GED preparation for adults or the External Diploma Program. One-on-one tutoring is given to adult non-readers. ESL classes are arranged according to need. A young adult program works with youth ages 17-20. Computer classes are set up for persons who seek employment or need to advance in their present employment. Catholic Charities Downtown Family CenterCatholic Charities provides crisis intervention, referrals, support services, Parish support and education to underserved, low-income and/or homeless individuals. Emergency rental assistance is available to families who qualify. The Center is open to residents of Washington, DC, in the downtown area. Support funds for women with cancer are also available. In 2008 Beyond Talent established meaningful relationships with the following outstanding organizations: Latin American Youth CenterThe Latin American Youth Center is a multicultural community-based organization that supports youth and their families in their determination to live, work, and study with dignity, hope, and joy. Maryland Multicultural Youth CenterThe Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers, a member of the Latin American Youth Center’s family of organizations, began offering programs in Maryland in the summer of 2005. Based on its 30-year experience in the District of Columbia, MMYC is working towards replicating LAYC’s proven youth development model in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. Since opening its doors, MMYC has served over 550 Maryland youth and families. See Forever Foundation/Oak Hill AcademySee Forever Foundation/Oak Hill Academy provides General Education Development (GED) classes and traditional educational classes to adjudicated young men at Oak Hill Academy. Sasha Bruce Youth Network The mission of Sasha Bruce Youth Network is to improve the lives of runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected and at-risk youth and their families in the Washington area. They achieve this by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training and positive youth development activities to approximately 1,500 youth and 5,000 family members each year. Literacy Volunteers & AdvocatesLiteracy Volunteers & Advocates enhances the lives of adults in the Washington, D.C., area who struggle with reading and writing. Literacy Volunteers & Advocates supports adults through several programs, including small classes and one-to-one tutoring. |
