Beyond Talent Introduces Two New Peer Mentors! PDF Print E-mail
Beyond Talent is proud to introduce its newest Peer Mentors, who joined us in April!

Beyond Talent's New Peer Mentors are

Alice Harris-Hall, who passed the GED exam in 2007 after studying at Living Wages, completed the Beyond Talent College Readiness Program with perfect attendance, and will now be tutoring at Living Wages while pursuing a career as a home health aide.

Hugh Carter, who passed the GED exam in 2007 after studying at Catholic Charities, will tutor his peers still in the Catholic Charities program while taking the necessary college credits to become a police officer.

In addition to current mentor...

Joyce Hatcher, who completed the External Diploma Program at Notre Dame Education Center and has been tutoring faithfully in both the EDP and GED programs there since June 2007.

Alumni Mentors Include

Leslie Hines (Catholic Charities), a sophomore at Southeastern University who works part time in the Virtual Enterprise Program, another adult education group, and serves on the Beyond Talent Board of Directors.

Marcellus (Academy of Hope). He will graduate from college in May 2008; he also received addiction counselor certification with help from Beyond Talent.

Darriel (Living Wages) is currently enrolled in a union apprenticeship program, which he researched and found with help from a Beyond Talent volunteer.

Shontaya (Friendship House), who gave the graduation speech at GED commencement, is now a junior at Trinity College. She completed the first two semesters with assistance from Beyond Talent.

Jewell (Living Wages), who went on to join AmeriCorps at Living Wages and is currently a student at PG Community College.

Yvette (Living Wages), like Jewell, so impressed the staff at Living Wages as a tutor, they recruited her to become a full-time AmeriCorps volunteer, tutoring and mentoring for two years in exchange for a living stipend and education award.

And many more!

Beyond Talent is currently implementing better procedures for tracking Peer Mentors during their service and beyond, and also to show their impact as they help all the talented individuals in GED and EDP programs to achieve their full potential!
