Beyond Talent hosted our first annual benefit gala on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Josephine Butler Parks Center. Supporters and friends joined staff and volunteers for an Evening at the Park Jazz Gala and Silent Auction, sponsored by the Abbott Klar Real Estate Group.

The President recognizes that expanding access to higher education is critical to our country's future: "After graduating high school, all Americans should be prepared to attend at least one year of job training or higher education to better equip our workforce for the 21st century economy. We will continue to make higher education more affordable by expanding Pell Grants and initiating new tax credits to make sure any young person who works hard and desires a college education can access it."

Living Wages Celebrates Graduating Class

Every week Beyond Talent Program Coordinator Kate Landry mentors students at a partner site, Living Wages. Summer intern Phil Gartland also tutors at Living Wages, a community-based, non-profit organization that provides adult education in Southeast Washington, DC. Many of the students Kate and Phil have been working with graduated and received high school diplomas in a ceremony on July 11, 2009.
